Writen in another forum was a very nice apraisal all about our "mess" (contrived though it was)...Now here is one lady who got the jist of what we where all about...Ye see, we like to do things diferently, not the usual dig a pit, set up some guns and then sit in it all day staring at the public...
..During the day a lot of people passed by, looked on, and really didn't seem to get it, some did and left with a grin...some people took the time to read our wee poster which said:
The display you see is loosely based on true events on Lake Albano. Only the locale is changed to southern France around August/September when the Force where advancing towards theb Franco-Italian border (see veterans account of "crusty bread) This story to follow...
It is a well known fact of "unofficial" history that individuals from many Allied units in the ETO/MTO helped themselves to whatever was left around by the retreating Germans.
The scene is set around a (fictional) series of events: Whilst advancing east, some Forcemen came accross a hastily abandonded chateau which had been requisitoined by a high ranking German officer, this officer, in his haste, left behind a good many items of interest and perhaps of value (as well as good fine French wine).
The Forcemen being as they where an enteprising lot, decided that it would be in the nations interest for the War Effort to requisition what they found, seeing as it was the enemies.
After "borrowing" a suitable means of carriage, the men returned, loaded up the truck and you now see them sorting out what they had, as well as some R&R.I guess we where the only group who tidyed up their mess in the evening, and made a mess in the morning ...
"Stuff" included the painting, a French Napoleonic musket and more"...

And ofcourse we had aquired a young French girl found hiding in the cellar, her parents presumed dead...

Then the food and ... wine...
