Hi Rifleman in reference to your post were talking about weapons used By British armed forces between 1945 and 1989 ish during the Cold War period. :)

I know that chaps down at Hereford that particularly like the HK 53 and HK G3 but am unsure of the issue period of them even though they are of West German design in the mid 60's. The MP5A2 and A3 of course has its first known use was in 1980 with the Iranian Embassy. The Minimi was introduced in 1974 originally but I am unsure of its original introduction date to the British forces. Same with the L115A1, I know the A3 version was announed in 2007 but I believe the L42A1 was still in service up, to 1982 with the Falklands.

The SIG P226 I know isn't in wide spread use even now, but first being trialed by the US Army in 1987. The speical's are still the only ones to have them as the rest of the forces still uses the Browning L9A1. But the Hi-Power was the pistol of choice for the SAS throughout the Cold War era.

HK 53 used by SAS, RMP, AAC
G3K used by SAS, RMP
MP5 used By SAS and RMP

all during this period.

And I would consider that the cold war was only a part of post 1945 British military operations.

P228 is on issue to various units including RMP

Found an interesting quote yesterday an amourer in Germany remembers having Webley and Enfield revolovers in his store until 1970! But by then they were limited to 2 rounds per revolver lol

Danny

There were quite a few webley .38's in service in Northern Ireland in the 70's and early 80's as PPW's for the UDR some were replaced with the walther pp until its reliability was called into question and it was replaced with the Walther P5.
One of my friends dads had a webley and had about adozen rounds for it.

SLR, SMG and........TA DA - Carl Gustav!!!!!!!!! Sad I know, but there's something warm and fuzzy about knowing you can knock out most armour you'd encounter on the battlefield
